Old World vs New World – Blind Tasting (Part-3):  Time now to bring out wines 5 and 6, two more reds both are deeper in color than wines 3 and 4.  Not quite a solid purple, but definitely more body than that of the Pinot experienced earlier.  My mind has already gravitated towards the varietals of Syrah, Zinfandel, or possibly Malbec.

Wine-5:  Nose – very tannic, hints of clove and earth;  Flavor – acidic notes with lean flavors of anise and mineral.  Not much mouth weight here, which is surprising for its dark, almost ink-like color.

Wine-6:  Nose – deep rich purple color with heavy spice and oak;  Flavor – rich plum and medium spice, nicely balanced.

Comparison:  Both of these wines had more of a whole milk texture to them.  That being said, wine-6 was more pronounced than wine-5, so I quickly ascertained that wine-6 must be a “New World” red and wine-5 must be an “Old World” red…would I be right?  Yep, I sure was.  (even a blind squirrel finds a nut every now and then)  J
